Outdoor Learning at 91´«Ã½

Outdoor learning at 91´«Ã½ offers students meaningful opportunities to extend their education beyond the classroom, engaging with real-world environments that inspire curiosity, resilience and independence. Through a carefully structured programme of expeditions and experiences, students are encouraged to challenge themselves physically and mentally, work collaboratively, and develop essential life skills such as problem-solving, leadership and adaptability. Whether exploring natural landscapes, participating in adventure activities or contributing to community projects, students learn through experience, reflection and teamwork. These experiences not only deepen academic understanding across a range of subjects but also nurture confidence, empathy and a strong sense of responsibility, helping students grow into capable and thoughtful individuals.

Forest School

Forest School sessions have been a highlight for many of our Early Years and KS1 children this year. We were lucky to enjoy weekly outdoor learning both at Chobar and in our newly developed on-site Forest School area, which also gave our KS2 learners the chance to continue their Forest School journey.

Throughout the year, the children took part in a wide variety of fun, hands-on activities connected to different learning themes, literary texts, and IPC units. They explored nature, built simple shelters, practiced safe tool use, created nature art, and worked together on teamwork challenges.

These experiences helped the children develop key Forest School skills such as problem-solving and resilience, while also encouraging the 5 Cs of 91´«Ã½â€”confidence, creativity, compassion, challenge, and community—and fostering a deeper appreciation for the natural environment in our beautiful home, Nepal. The smiles, teamwork, and sense of adventure shown by our EYFS and KS1 children have made Forest School a truly special part of our year.

Primary Expeditions

From the very first Camp 91´«Ã½ adventures in Year 1 and 2 through to the week-long residential experiences in Year 6, our Primary School expeditions provide unforgettable opportunities for exploration, learning and personal growth. Children across the year groups immerse themselves in outdoor learning, cultural experiences, creative activities and community engagement through nature hikes, wildlife conservation visits, heritage explorations, trekking, river activities, arts workshops and team challenges. Along the way, they build friendships, develop teamwork and resilience, challenge themselves in new environments and create lasting memories — whether making their own food, crossing suspension bridges, taking part in traditional dance, creating artwork inspired by nature or spotting wildlife in its natural habitat. These experiences encourage independence, curiosity and cooperation, while deepening the children’s appreciation for the world around them.

Secondary Expeditions

Expeditions provide students across the Secondary School with opportunities to challenge themselves, build resilience and develop meaningful connections through adventure, service and teamwork. From climbing, rafting, trekking and camping to community projects, cultural experiences and collaborative challenges, students step outside their comfort zones and demonstrate determination, leadership and support for one another. Alongside outdoor pursuits, many groups work closely with local schools and communities by leading games, teaching lessons, running workshops and contributing to improvement projects, while others deepen their learning through geography, environmental exploration and cultural engagement. Whether navigating demanding hikes, working together to overcome physical challenges or reflecting on their shared experiences, students continue to grow in confidence, independence and empathy, creating memories and friendships that will stay with them long after the expeditions end.
